Samir Ibrahimov
Samir Ibrahimov is an accomplished figure in the world of fencing. His remarkable journey from competitive success to coaching excellence underscores his impact on the global fencing community. He is an asset to the Tennessee fencing community. Middle Tennessee Fencing Club is proud to call him Coach.
Coaching Career:
Middle Tennessee Fencing Club: Head Coach from 2018-Current
Notre Dame Fighting Irish: From 2015-2018, Samir Ibrahimov coached the Notre Dame NCAA Sabre team to multiple championship successes.
Hong Kong National Team: Prior to Notre Dame, Ibrahimov spent three years as the Head Coach of Hong Kong’s national fencing team. During his tenure, he led the team to victory in four Asian Championships, both in team and individual events. Notably, he coached Hong Kong’s first-ever World Champion at the Cadet and Junior World Championships in Croatia.
Azerbaijan National Team: From 1995 to 2011, Ibrahimov served as the Head Sabre Coach for the Azerbaijan national fencing team. His innovative training regimen resulted in several national champions and Satellite World Cup finalists.
Dynamo Fencing Club: As the Head Sabre Coach at Dynamo fencing club, Ibrahimov revamped their training process, leading the club to a National Championship within his first year.
Competitive Achievements:
World Championships: Ibrahimov secured a gold medal at the World Championships in Lyon, France, in 1990. Additionally, he earned a silver medal at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in 1991.
USSR National Champion: He clinched the title of five-time USSR National Champion (1980, 1984, 1988, 1990, and 1991) and represented the USSR National fencing team.
Honors and Awards: Ibrahimov was honored as a master of his sport within the USSR and received the Special Achievements Award from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Aliyev recognized his significant contribution to the development of fencing in Azerbaijan.
Education and Languages:
Ibrahimov holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the Azerbaijan State Institute of Physical Education (USSR).
He attained his Masters of Sport in Fencing.
Fluent in Russian and Azerbaijani, he is also proficient in English.
Coach Samir Ibrahimov is a fully certified and registered Coach through USA Fencing, the official governing body behind Team USA Fencing at the Olympics. The USA Fencing Coach certification process includes demonstrating expertise in the rules and regulation of the sport, Safesport training to ensure athlete protection, and a complete background check.
